My Only Exception

Last Part

Times passed quickly for Maan. As he had to cope up with this new environment and busy to understand his work and colleagues.

Though the people around him help a lot, still it’s hard for him to cope up when he’s alone here without his family, dealing every sort of things.

In these two weeks, he always saw her in one specific place when he was always coming to hospital in mornings. On that peach dark bench under the almond tree, with a book in her hand, engrossed to even notice who’s passing her by.

One morning:

Maan was entering the hospital when he again noticed Geet. She is not sitting with a book that she usually does, but was sitting quietly looking at the children playing.

Maan looked at his watch and then started walking towards her.

Maan: so you are in a sad or bad mood today?

Geet looked up to hear his voice

Geet: hey, how are you doc?

Maan: I’m good and Maan will be good enough to be called by you

Geet smiled at this

Geet: Geet it is then

Maan: why aren’t you reading any books today?

Geet: How do you know that I read books?

Maan: because for the last two weeks I always saw you here on this bench and always a book in your hands

Geet: I never noticed you

Maan: you broke my heart then

Geet: why?

Maan: cause maybe I’m not too attractive for you to look at me

Geet: Ah, now how do you know I don’t find you attractive? Are you a psychologist?

Maan: I’m not but guess I can now become one

And both laughed out not be able to control their laughter

Maan: are you upset?

Geet: well, kinda, a little bit

Maan: why?

Geet: cause its 27th of December today

Maan: okay fine, but I didn’t get it

Maan said with a confused look

Geet: you don’t know about the party on New Year eve?

Maan: oh about that. Yes, Dr. Ron was talking about it yesterday

Geet: enjoy and have fun. I’m sure it will be great

Maan: You are not coming over there?

Geet: I can’t.

Maan: but all are allowed there, right?

Geet: yes but I don’t have any one to go with me there. Though I always hear that it’s the best day to celebrate and was excited about it. But I can’t go alone

Geet: hmmm, quite sad. Don’t you have any friends here? As you said you are here from last 6 months

Geet: its 6 months and 17 days. I do have friends but you see they are not 18+ so not allowed in eve party

Saying so Geet pointed towards the kids who were playing with a ball.

Maan: they are your friends?

Geet: yes, aren’t they cute? They are actually like the innocent buds of a garden

Maan: looks like you like children

Geet: I love them but maybe I should not

Geet softly muttered with a deep longing that only she knew of, hearing her sorrow filled tone Maan looked at her face, for a moment he noticed the flicker of pain in her eyes and within a second it’d disappeared.

Geet: are you in a break now?

Maan: kind of. Don’t feel like going inside. By the way I can help you about the eve party

Geet: and how?

Maan: I was planning to escape the party as I don’t know whom to ask to be my partner. If you want you can join me and we both can go together to the eve’s party

Geet: you sure you want to go with me?

Geet questioned uncertain.

Maan: I really don’t know much people with whom I can go. Yes some girls do tell me to be their partner, but it’s kind of throwing them on me. And by the look of their face I can see how they were planning to eat me after the count down. So I politely refused to save myself.

Geet laughed at him

Maan: It’s not funny. You should show some sympathy by telling me that you will go with me

Geet: Alright we’ll go together then.

Maan took out a card and give it to her. Call me when you will decide the character. Then we will go for dress shopping.

Geet: okay, but you really sure, I mean… you know.

Maan: yes I’m absolutely sure ma’am. Now don’t think over it and think of what you’re going to wear. I need to go now. Call me when you will decide your character.

Geet: bye Maan. And thank you

Maan: not welcome, because I was also in need of someone. Bye Geet.

3 days passed quickly

Both Geet and Maan went in shopping all together, along with Maan’s some new friends here. It was fun to spend time out of the hospital for Geet, that too after so many months.

Though Maan wanted to pay for both of them, but Geet refused stubbornly and paid for her own respective clothes.

In these 3 days, Maan understood how strong minded Geet is. She was quite free with all of them, but always kept a distance and preferred not to cross her limits while they joked around because she didn’t want to make the same mistake twice.

She never once forgot her upbringing, her down to earth behavior, her mannerisms was what Maan admired and was starting to feel something for her.

It’s 31st December:

All were gathered in the hall. Gossiping with each other or dancing with their pair. Maan looked at his watch and thought about calling her again.

He went near the entrance where the music was a bit quiet. He was about to call her when he eyes went towards the gate.

There she was dressed in a Cinderella lightly whitish sky blue gown, her hair done up in a neat bun at the side, her face dusted with light make up keeping her natural beauty on show.

Maan stared at her unable to look away, he smiled as she walked towards him, she looked absolutely gorgeous he thought to himself swallowing hard.

Geet looked in front of her and saw Maan dressed in a black and purple velvet work coat along with a black pant. He’s looking exactly like a prince.

Both smiled and started to walk towards each other.

Maan put his one hand forward and asked in a soft voice.

May I have the honor of escorting this beautiful princess?

Geet: Sure my prince

She replied and held onto his offered hand. Both entered the hall together, hand in hand. Many looked at them with appreciation as they were looking just perfect as couple.

Many looked at them with jealously. Girls were jealous as Maan didn’t accept their offer and said he might not attend this program, while boys were jealous as they didn’t notice this beautiful lady here in this hospital.

They joined Maan’s friend circle and started to talk with them. Maan made sure that she is comfortable enough and didn’t leave her side for a minute.

After like one hour, when it’s near 11.45pm, they reached near the lift and went on the top floor where there will be a better view of fireworks. They found many other couples sitting or standing there for the same reason.

And then the countdown began. All started counting together.

“Happy New Year”

All screamed together. Geet looked around and saw people hugging each other, or kissing their partner and wishing each other.

After six years she felt alone. She felt a hole inside her heart that made some tear slipped from her eyes.

She tried to be strong enough, and she was till then. For her parents, for her own self, she tried hard not to weaken. But today she felt anger boiling like lava inside of her heart. Why she is the unlucky one here? Why destiny was so cruel with her to snatch her bright future, snatched away her love, snatched Dev?

Suddenly her chain of thoughts broke when she felt one hand touched her arm and made her turn towards the person.

Maan was looking at her face and saw how the excitement and happiness from her faces washed away and pain replaced that smile. He called her softly but looks like she didn’t even notice anything and engrossed in her own thoughts. So he turned her towards him.

The pain in her eyes made him restless and he didn’t realize his next action.

He pressed a soft kiss on her check.

“Happy New Year”- Maan whispered near her ear.

Geet looked at him with her big brown eyes, astonished by his action. But she couldn’t lie with her own self that she felt light. She felt light that someone is standing near her as well

So she just gave a smile to him in return. A genuine smile.

Geet: Happy New Year Maan

Days passed. They started to meet each other regularly, keep talking on phone. For Geet she found a friend in Maan. But the feeling inside of Maan’s heart is totally different.

He started to fall for this girl badly. Her innocent acts, her care for him, sharing each and every activity with him, made him weak for her.

Geet checked the apartment number again and then pressed the bell. No one answered. Feeling frustrated she pressed the bell hard this time.

After like one minute she heard the coughing sound, and then the door opened.

Maan looked at her with wide eyes like he’s watching some horror movie witch in front of him

Geet: can you please give me a little space to enter inside?

Maan: what are you doing here?

Geet: of course come to check you

Maan: but

Geet: Can you start your rapid fire round once I will get inside? now move out of my way you stupid

Maan opened the door fully and Geet entered inside. She looked around of the house. It’s a small two room house. The drawing and dinning is together set on a hall like room. And there was a bed room attached with a balcony.

Geet: look at you; didn’t you take your medicines? Your eyes are so red in color

Saying so Geet touched Maan’s forehead and winched with the temperature.

Geet: did you have your lunch?

Maan: not yet. I was about to go for a bath, then would make my lunch.

Geet: okay you go and complete your bath. I’m making the food for you

Maan: you sure?

Geet: of course, now go and hurry up. I’m hungry too

Saying so Geet pushed Maan towards his room and went to the kitchen for making lunch.

After like one hour, both were sitting on the large couch with their plates. They were watching TV and eating their lunch.

Maan: I never have eaten such delicious pasta he praised.

Geet: my dad always says that I’m best cook when it comes about making pasta

Maan: he is indeed right.

After finishing the foods they just stretched their legs and keep watching the tv and Geet noticed Maan was sound asleep beside her.

She stood up and brought a comforter from his bed and slowly put it over him. She was about to move away when her leg stuck with the wooden leg of the table and she slipped. She fell down on Maan making him wide awake.

Both were laying together, Geet over Maan. He tucked the hair that was blocking his view and then very slowly brought her face near him.

He was about to kiss her but Geet jerked his hand away from his check and stood up.

Geet: it’s not right

Maan: but Geet

Geet: we are just friend ok? It’s just not right.

Maan: why Geet, don’t you feel that there’s something between us more than just a friend?

Geet: nothing can happen between us, do you get that? I, I shouldn’t come here on the first place

Geet was about to leave when Maan grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him

Maan: Why can nothing happen? Why are you saying something like that?

Geet: I’ve told you, It’s not right. This is all wrong.

Maan: what’s wrong with you?

Geet: listen Maan, you are a good guy, truly. That’s why I don’t want you to regret later. Just try to understand what I’m telling. We are not meant to be together, okay?

Maan: do you love someone else?

Geet: no, nor I want someone to love me

Maan: bull shit. What’s wrong with you? Why are you speaking like this for? We’ve known each other for some time now, I want you. I want to spend my life with you. If you want assurance I’ll speak to my grandmother to talk to your parents.

Geet: It can’t happen. Please leave me

Geet pleaded while trying to come out of his grip.

Maan: why not dammit?

He shouted out of frustration

Geet: because I’m suffering from endometrial cancer.

Geet too shouted, making Maan numb on those words.

Geet: no one can love a girl like me. There were tumors on my ovary and before I could actually understand, I was suffering from uterine cancer.

Maan: you are

Geet: I came here for the operation, as they suggested it was wise to remove my uterine. But again I’m late. The cancer started to spread on my whole body. And for this I’m here from last 7 months.

Maan: you are applying chemotherapy here? you never told  me

Geet: yes, because you never asked me. Please Maan try to understand the reality. There’s no future with me. There’s no guarantee that in future I will survive. Even if I will, I will never be able to lead a normal life, I can never be a mother.

Geet looked at Maan painfully. Tears were falling endlessly from her eyes.

Geet: you have a bright future in front of you. You will be a successful doctor, success will run behind you. You will get a perfect girl for you. Please don’t waste your time on a girl like me, who don’t have any future in front of her.

Geet took her bag and ran out. While Maan keep looking at her retreated figure. Her words were running inside of his head, he felt like he will burst on emotion, on pain.

Sister checked her BP and took some blood for some more tests. Last three days were some disasters for her. After she reached hospital from Maan’s flat, she felt throbbing pain in her head, making her tremble. Before she could reach her head, everything started to fade from her sight and she fall down on the floor senseless.

From last three days, doctor didn’t give the therapy to her and suggested her to stay inside of the room and to take rest.

Just half hour ago she made her parents to go back, ensuring them that she is feeling fine now.

The door opened and Geet said in a sarcasm voice

Geet: they already take away whole 5 tube blood. I will not give anymore. Go and tell them to lend you some for the test.

“Looks like I’m their toy and I don’t feel anything on those pricks” – she mumbled to herself.

“Don’t worry. I’m not planning to hurt you. Not anymore”

The voice made her look at the door totally surprised. There he was. Standing near the door

Maan: may I come in?

Geet: sure

Maan came inside and sat near her.

Geet: what are you doing here?

Maan: I want wanted to tell you something

Geet sighed.

Geet: you don’t need to explain. I do understand, and trust me I am not feeling bad over it

Maan: Sorry?

Geet: look Maan. You really don’t need to feel sad over all these. Trust me I do understand. And it’s pretty normal as well. Anyone in your place would do the same. You were close with me as a friend as I’m the only Bangladeshi here. So you became weak on me. But now as you came to know about my disease, you are worried how to tell me that it’s just a mistake. And it’s normal for you to move on away from me. Where my fianc too moved on as his family would not accept a girl who can’t give them any grandchildren in near future.

Maan: wait a second, will you let me speak at least

Geet: hey, come on. You don’t need to apologize to me, ok? It’s alright

Maan: and who the hell told you that I’m going to apologize to you?

Geet: you’re not?

Maan: no, why will I?

Geet: then what are you doing here? Are you planning to insult me now saying I tried to seduce you that day? Look Maan, I didn’t know that you had any feelings for me apart from a friend. So it’s absolutely not my fault that

Maan placed his finger on her lips and shut her up

Maan: can you please stop your imagination and let me speak?

Geet nodded cutely

Maan: good. Now just shut off your mouth and let me say what I wanted to

Maan sighed and hold her both hands with his own

Maan: look Geet. I know your life just changed upside down with just one medical report. But it’s not something that you are in fault here. It’s decided by the God who always gives danger and pain to those who have the ability to suffer through it. And I can understand how strong girl you really are. God decided you to live your life without being a mother. It’s His decision and you cannot change this. But does that mean you will stop the happiness to come in your way?

Maan asked her while looking directly at her eyes.

Maan: I know I love you with all my heart and I’m honest with my feelings here. Without knowing about your disease I fell in love with you. Yes it felt like someone stabbed m heart with a sharp knife when I came to know that you are suffering from cancer. It hurts a lot. It’s also true that for a moment I feel like what I did, how I fell in love with you, why I didn’t know more about you before falling in love with you. And I’m sorry for these thoughts. But later on when I think over it calmly I realize that love just happens. It never wants need any reason to be in love, it just happens. And I can tell you that I am in love with you with all my heart that I will never leave you even if you will try to run away from me

Geet: Maan

Maan: yes Geet. No matter how many times you will tell me to move away, I will never leave you. I will be with you till my last breath. It’s not in our hand that we can change our destiny, but together we can fight with this destiny and find our happiness. And for that I want you to trust me and give one chance. One chance?

Geet: you are telling all these out of your guiltiness, after a few days when you will feel bored of staying with me, when I will not be able to give babies to you, you will start to hate me. I know it Maan

Maan: no I will not. We will adopt as many children as you want.

Geet: No Maan, just try to understand the situation here. There’s no future with me here.

Maan: how can you say that? Just because some stupid fool left you, that doesn’t mean that you are not meant to be happy. Just give me one chance to prove myself. Please Geet? Just one chance?

Geet only cried unable to control her pain.

Maan placed his palms on her checks and made her look at him.

Maan: look at my eyes Geet. Can’t you see the honesty in my eyes?

Geet: promise me you will not leave me and go away from me

Maan: never. I promise you on that

Geet: Promise?

Maan: shall I seal the promise?

Geet: how?

Geet asked totally confused

Maan brought his face closer to her and looked at her lips. He looked at her eyes for the permission and in reply Geet closed her eyes in submission. And they kissed.

They kissed with a promise of togetherness in the upcoming future. They promised to hold on each other in the future no matter how hard it will be.

OS: My Only Exception (Epilogue)

My Only Exception

It’s almost 4 years now.

Yes, finally they are happily married. They are happily living with each other.

Maan never broke his promise. He was with her till the last day of her treatment. He made sure to cheer her up when she was sad for her losing hairs. He made sure to take care of her, whether she is eating timely or not, taking the right medicines or not.

After one year of that day, they married with both of their families’ agreement. Maan’s family is broad minded and he managed to make them understand that he wants this girl in his life.

They bought a four room’s apartment and shifted on it after their marriage. Though Geet’s father wanted to gift them a house, Maan politely refused saying he wanted to bring her wife to a place that he achieved with his hard work.

They adopted 3 children named Kia, Jia and Vicky.

And today it’s their 3rd anniversary. They celebrated the day with their children. They went for a family dinner where they invited their close friends.

Maan gifted her beautiful long gown along with a diamond set jewelry. On the party, all were asking them what Geet gifted him. Maan made faces while Geet keep telling him that she will give him the gift when they will be at home.

Finally when they reached the home and trio children went for sleep, Maan entered their room and heard the shower sound. He was about to go towards the wardrobe for taking his dress, when a wrapped gift pack attracted his attention that is in the study table.

He opened the wrapped pack and found a scrap book. He opened the 1st page and saw his and Geet’s picture that was clicked by one of his friend on that new year eve party.

On the 2nd page there was a picture of them in their new house

On the 3rd page, their wedding picture along with their parents.

On the 4th page there was a picture of them holding Kia, when Kia was only 2 years old.

On the 5th page Jia grinning widely with them when she won the art competition in her school

On the 6th page, Vicky and their cricket playing picture clicked on the park.

On the 7th page, their 1st anniversary picture, then on next page their 2nd anniversary picture.

Whole scrap book is filled with their beautiful memories. That they lived together, cherished together happily.

In the last page there is a picture where Maan was hugging Geet from behind. And there was some line written by Geet

I never believed in fairy tales, or the happily ever after.

Destiny played its game and society made me believe that I’m unlovable.

But then you came in my life as the knight in shining armor.

You make me believe that I’m beautiful.

I’m acceptable and lovable.

You make me forget my dark painful past.

And now I believe the love quotes. So this one is for you to share my feelings when I stay close to you.

“Millions and millions of years would still not give me half enough time to describe that tiny instant of all eternity when you put your arms around me and I put my arms around you.” – Jacques Prevert

You are my bright present, my dream future.

Because you are My Only Exception

His eyes welled up to feel the love. But before the tear could touch the floor, Geet wiped that away.

Maan smiled at her and brought her closer to him

Maan: you know what? When I saw you on that Cinderella dress, I understood that you are the princes of my life. And I love you a lot Geet

In response Geet hugged him tight and whispered near his heart

Geet: and I love you. Only you

Authors Note:

Mostly in Asian countries, in every single day, many marriages are breaking just because the girl is suffering over diseases like tumors in ovary, uterine cancer. But is it actually their fault that they will suffer and live a painful life?

There are far too many Geets in this world, in each country. But the saddest part is, almost many of them never get any Maan in their life to gift them the comfort, to bring them out from the pain and dark future. And it actually makes those girls either live their life in one corner of the house, or give out their lives in suicide.

Don’t make them feel like they are some dirt in society. It’s not in their hand that they can never be a mother. There are millions of orphans who need a place to live a healthy life, who need someone to give them home, careful parents. One can give those innocent children some home as well.

Do it now. Do it for those innocent victims. Do it for those innocent children. Do it because everyone deserves a happily ever after.

Maan = Cavill
Geet = Kate
Dev = John
Mohindar = William
Rano = Kelly
                         Part 1

“Oh please God, please please, this time give me A in all subjects. Pretty please?”

She opened her one eye and peeped on the mark sheet and then checked her marks.

Basics in Natural Science – A

Principles of Marketing – A

Macro Economics – A

Operational Management – A

Human Resource Management – A-

“Not again” – she pouted while looking at the marks.

She came out from the crowd, and saw her friends too coming out with a wide grin.

“3 A’s and 2 A-‘s, not bad, right? “ – Meera asked but looked worried seeing the big frown on Geet’s face.

Hey you okay? Did you check your marks? – Meera asked worriedly.

“Yeah, do you have any works left here? Or else let’s go” – Geet said trying hard not to show her sad mood.

“Geet, tell me the marks honey” – Meera said still not sure about the reason of her sad face

“I’m fine Meer, It’s just the same thing again, you know the famous quote? History repeats?” – Geet said pouting

Meera – “hmmm, get it now. Just one course stopped your 4 again, right?”

Geet – “Yeah. Now let’s go”

Meera- “Crap Geet. You again topped among all of us. And it’s the best thing, ok?Don’t be sad as no one got 4 out of 4”

Saying so Meera side hugged her, and both started to go towards the car. It’s been two years Geet joined Dhaka University. And in these 2 years, she got one friend with whom she can say as a close friend. Meera and Geet both said Hello on the very first day of uni when they both were waiting outside of the room to open to get inside to start the uni life. From that day till now they are always together.

Yes they do have a whole gang of 11 friends. They hang around together. Do parties, all the funs together. But it’s a word “partner in crime” and that’s Geet’s Meer.

Meera looked at Geet who was sitting in the car looking outside. She opened her mobile and sends a message to a number saving as “Soon to be Brother- in law”. Then looked back at Geet and smiled softly.

Just then Geet’s phone rang. She received the call but didn’t say anything at all.

Caller: So madam will not say a word to me?

Geet didn’t reply but shook her head in negative.

Caller: Geet, I cannot see you through the mobile love. So can we do the verbal communication? Please honey?

Geet: Same thing again happen Dev, you know?

Dev: Same thing? Ok, you topped again? Then why are you upset?

Geet: not that topped fool. I again got A- in one course. Again was just one cm far from getting one perfect 4

Dev: honey, why do you get upset over this small matter? Come on, you will do better in next semester, trust me.

Geet: You’ve kept on saying that for the last 2 years.

Dev: I know I also keep saying you’re the best for what you’re achieving right now so stop being overworking your brain.

Geet: It’s not about overworking or anything. It’s my father’s dream to see me succeed and reach the top and you know it very well.

Dev: And you are at the top

Geet: But I want more, so that I can get that 100% scholarship in abroad. And for that I need that 4

Dev: I know. And I can see that you are trying too. And my soon to be dad will be glad to hear your this result, trust me. Now forget all that, please? For me?

Geet: You know how to change the subject, don’t you?

Dev: Yes because I love my baby way too much that she cannot stay sad. Now come on, give me a cute smile my honeybee.

Geet: I love you hubby

Dev: I love you too honey. Now don’t be sad. Go home and celebrate. I’m going to my class now. Will catch you later. Bye

Geet: Yeah bye

Dev cut the call and looked at Meera to see her grinning at Geet.

Geet: stop informing him each and every matter, you moron

Geet threw her bag on Meera while trying hard to keep a serious expression on her face by frowning. Meera laughed at her.

Meera: look at you? Stop pressurizing your face and laugh freely you drama queen

And both laughed hugging each other.

Geet reached home and saw her parents sitting on the drawing room.  Her father (Mohindar) was talking with someone on phone.

Geet: I’m home momma. She shouted towards them.

In reply her mother (Rano) looked at her and gestured her to keep silent by her finger

Mohindar: okay then. I will talk with Geet and then inform you. It’s their life so we should not force them. So let them decide.

Saying to Mohindar bid good bye and cut the call

Rano: how many times I need to tell you not to talk this much loudly? Is it a way to behave like a woman?

Geet: but momma, I’m still a girl. So why already act like a woman now?

Rano: Geet, don’t reply back on elders.

Geet looked at her father with a sad pout. And it worked like always.

Mohindar: honey stop being harsh with my baby girl

Rano: because of you she’s like this. Doesn’t even hear any of my orders and does whatever she likes. Don’t know how she will manage once she gets married.

Geet: Whoa whoa, hang on. Did I miss something?

Rano: Now that you can ask your father. I’m no one here for both of you, right?

Saying so she left for kitchen while Geet sat beside her father.

Mohindar: Dev’s mother called. Dev is coming next month. So they were planning for your marriage with Dev.

Geet: wait a minute, when did I say yes for any marriage?

Mohindar: Geet, listen to me baby

Geet: no dad. Listen to me, I already told you many times that I want to stand on my own feet first. I want to complete my education and want to get a good job.

Mohindar: but Geet, marriage is also important, right love? I mean, you both love each other and it’s been 4 years now.

Geet: I already told him that long time ago dad. I have to secure yours and momma’s future first. Then I will marry him.

Mohindar: Geet, I’m earning now and I can take care of your momma

Geet: but till when dad? Pretty soon you will be retired from your job. Then? I need to complete my education getting the best results, so that in the future I can work and earn a good living and also take care of you as well.

Mohindar: Darling you have to look at your life as well

Geet: My life will also be good and secure dad. I don’t have any other siblings so let me make a way to take care of you guys in future, please?

Mohindar: ok I will not force you. But you both can exchange and ring and fix the marriage officially. An engagement won’t hurt your path for building your career, you know?

Geet: But dad…

Mohindar: Shh, think about it sweetie. Talk with JDev and you both can decide. You have a whole one month to decide.

Geet: ok, I will

Mohindar: now go and freshen up. Then we will go for dinner

Geet: Dinner?

Mohindar: yes, to celebrate your result

Geet: dad you know I again…

Mohindar: It doesn’t matter what you didn’t get for a little number gap sweetie. What matter for me is whether you are doing great in your study or not. And I know my daughter is the best

Saying so he pecked on Geet’s forehead and side hugged her.

Geet: I love you dad. Did I tell you that you are the best?

Mohindar: hah hah. I love you too baby. Now let’s go and let’s flatter your momma. Or else we will not get anything for lunch.

Geet: let’s go

Both father daughter left for the kitchen to give some oil to Kelly.

It was the day of the engagement; Geet looked at herself dressed in a beautiful cherry pink silk gown, across her waist there was a diamante belt accentuating her curves, her hair done in loose curls bouncing down to her waist.

Anna: oh my God, You are looking not less than a bride Geet

Meera: Today Dev will fall flat for sure Geet

Heat rushed to her cheeks coloring them as she blushed at their comments.

Pinky: Stop blushing ever so much or else you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between your blush or the powered blusher.

Pinky teased Geet

Geet: will you guys shut up for once?

Meera: If you’re this shy just in your engagement, what will happen on your wedding day?

Anna: should I include your first night?

Geet scowled at them, grabbing her hairbrush she chucked at their direction which missed unfortunately, however the two of them laughed at her. Whereas now Geet’s face matched the color of her gown.

Finally its time, Rano brought Geet down near the stage. Geet looked at the stage and saw Dev standing up and walking towards them. She blushed more and looked down immediately.

Dev: May I take the pleasure to take my soon to be wife and soon to be mother with me?

Both chuckled and gave them their hand and Dev escorted them towards the stage together.

Finally it was time. They took the rings offered and exchanged, Dev was grinning throughout and Geet didn’t dare to look up, she felt flustered when Dev pressed a kiss to her cheek, she looked at him shocked whilst everyone chuckled clapping, whistling and shouts of encouragement filled the room.

15days later:

Geet was sat with her mother in the waiting room of the clinic. she’d recently come to get her checkup done for the pain she was enduring, for quite a number of years she’d felt severe pain during her periods, and these days her pain wasn’t endurable so she followed her mother’s advice and had her checkup done. Today was the day of the results they were going to receive for the tests she’d gotten done.

Doctor: Hello Mrs. Handa

Rano: Hello Mrs. Keyshap

Doctor: How are you Geet?

Geet: I’m good aunty. We’ll take all the reports.

Doctor: relax honey. Why are you getting worried? Just don’t worry. Actually at this age hormonal problems occur a lot. I will just suggest some medicines and everything will be fine. And about the tests, it’s for getting sure, nothing else. So just calm down.

Geet smiled at this and forwarded the reports.

Mrs. Keyshap kept checking the reports and after sometime she looked upward and smiled at Geet.

Doctor: dear, I’m writing some medicines for you. You have to make sure that you are taking all these medicines on time, not to miss a single dose, okay?

Geet: sure aunty

She wrote down some medicines and gave the prescription to Geet.

Doctor: you can buy them from downstairs. You go and buy them. I need to talk with your momma.

Rano: is everything all right?

Doctor: everything is just fine with Geet. I want to talk with you about something else. About the new house my husband is planning to build. If now I can share the plan with you, you can tell that to Mohindarji. That’s it

Geet: ok then you both carry on. I am going to buy the medicines.

Rano: here take my bag and pay with my money.

Geet bought the medicines and was returning towards the doctor’s room, when she saw her mother coming towards her

Geet: done with discussion?

Rano: hmmm, let’s go

Geet noticed her mother’s worried expressions.

Geet: momma, is everything all right? Why are you so tensed?

Rano: yes baby, everything is just fine. Let’s go. Your dad must reach home till now

Rano said while trying hard not to show her tears to her daughters.

That day when Geet woke up at late night feeling thirsty, she found her water jug empty. She was going to the kitchen when she heard whimper coming from her parents’ bedroom, which made her worried. Her parents were not like those couples who would quarrel pretty badly on any topic and cry over it.

The next day her momma was over soft on her even when she woke up late. She made sure Geet was taking her medicines on time. Even send her in bed for rest in afternoon.

Later in the evening, Mohindar knocked on her room and went inside.

Geet: dad I was about to come to you. Is everything all right between you and momma?

Mohindar: yes, why are you asking this?

Geet: yesterday night, I heard momma crying. You are not lying with me, are you?

Mohindar: no Geet. Your momma is just worried for you, nothing else

Geet: for me?

Just then Rano too entered inside her room

Geet: momma why are you worried for me?

Rano sat beside her and cupped her face

Rano: baby just concentrate what you dad will tell you now. Don’t panic and trust on us that everything will be perfect, ok?

Geet just nodded totally confused of her surroundings

Mohindar: in your test, they found out tumor on your right ovary

Geet: what? But aunty told me that it’s just hormonal problem and she gave me some medicines as well

Mohindar: I know. Mrs. Keyshap wanted to discuss with us and didn’t want to make you afraid of all this

Geet: Will I be ok dad?

Rano: off course you will. We will go abroad and will do your checkup over there.

Geet: How serious it is dad?

Mohindar: It is that serious that we’re leaving next week for Australia, give me your passport so I can get the visa.

Geet only nodded in response.

Mohindar brought her more closely to himself

Mohindar: is my baby afraid?

Geet: Nope as long as her momma and dad are with her, she has got nothing to be afraid of.

Geet said while giving him a dazzling smile

Six months later:

St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney:

A young woman was sitting on a bench surrounded by greenery reading a book peacefully in the warm weather; she was dressed in a pink t-shirt accompanied by dark navy jeans and a light blue jacket over her. She wrapped a pink scarf around her as she didn’t want the blazing sun rays to touch her.

She was engrossed in the book till a small girl in red frock came running towards her

Small girl: miss. Geet, will you please help me to get that ball?

Geet looked at the child and smiled at her

Geet: hey cutie, how are you?

Dorothy: I was good just a minute ago. But right now I’m sad

Geet: and why is that?

Dorothy: because I discovered that I am too small to bring down my ball from that window.

She said pointing towards the window of the small church that is inside of the hospital

Geet: will it make you a little bit happy that Miss Geet will help you to get the ball every time?

Dorothy: very much

Dorothy said giving her a wide grin

Geet: then come on. Let’s grab that naughty ball which always runs away from you

Both went near the window. Its height is a little bit big that Geet had to stand on some wood pile to grab that ball. She threw that ball towards Dorothy

Dorothy: thank you Miss Geet

Saying so Dorothy ran after her ball

Geet was about to get down when her one leg slipped and she lost her balance

Geet closed her eyes tightly to feel the tight floor a sharp pain on her body, but instead of the floor she felt herself hanging in air and two strong arms hold her tightly

You ok miss? – A soft soothing voice asked her.

The owner of the voice made her stand on her feet but still Geet didn’t open her eyes, nor removed the hands that were clenching the person’s neck

“Hey you ok? Easy girl. Take a deep breath and let it out from your mouth slowly”

A person again spoke while rubbing her back to make her easy

Geet did what the person told her to do and opened her eyes to meet with a hooded pair of chocolate brown eyes and a worried face.

He’s nearly in his thirty. His hair was covered with a fade blue cap, firm jaw had stubble that covered his face making his more attractive, and damn that m shaped lips.

“Young lady, are you all right?” – He asked again

Geet came to her sense and created some space between them

Geet: Yes I’m fine, was expecting to fall on the ground and break my body, she laughed nervously.

“I can guess that by seeing your face” – He smiled lightly

Geet: thanks for the help. Don’t know how my leg just slipped

“You welcome, miss?”

Geet: Geet. I’m Geet Handa

Geet forwarded her hand for a hand shake

“It’s Maan, Maan Singh Khurana”

Maan shook her hand.

Geet: nice to meet you Maan. I never saw you here before. Glad to find one some of the same ethnicity here after a long time

Maan: looks like you are related with this hospital from a very long time

Geet: well from last 4 months, if it’s long enough according to you

Maan: Longer than mine, you know

Geet: so you are new here?

Maan: yes just joined here from yesterday. Will start my work from today

Geet: work as a?

Maan: As a doctor.

Geet: then our relation will be like cat and mouse

Maan: and why it will be like that?

Geet: Because I’m a patient here and I love to run away from doctors.

Maan: okay, but it totally depends on which department you are admitted into. By the way, if you don’t me asking why are you here for such a long time?

Just then Geet heard a sister calling her

Geet: Maan I need to rush now. My momma and dad are here to meet me. So I better leave now

Maan: sure, hope to meet you soon

Geet: off course we will, bye

Maan: bye

Maan watched her running off towards a bench to collect a book and then going towards the sister.

He too left for his duty

Times passed quickly for Maan. As he had to cope up with this new environment and busy to understand his work and collogues.
